Toyota finally snapped into their senses and decided to build the brand new Supra after much anticipation. Interestingly, it was developed under a joint venture with the new BMW Z4. But will this partnership tame the famously crazy Toyota wild child?
Gazoo Racing Chief Tetsuya Tada assures that even though it shares a similar architecture with the Z4, production was completely separated to ensure that the cars turn out completely differently.
It’s fitted with the BMW 3.0L, single turbo, straight six which ranges between 300 – 350bhp. It has an 8 speed automatic gearbox and it is exclusively rear wheel drive.
With an engine fully behind the front axle it is officially front mid-engined and achieves a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The steering wheel isn’t packed with feeling but it gets heavier as the load increases, a good warning of how close the tires are to letting up.
The timing couldn’t be better, with the automotive industry in flux it just feels like the right time for a legend to re-enter the scene. The name, the look and the badge has been hibernating for too long. We can’t wait to see this monster make a come back.
